these texts are an archive of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area from march 2007 - march 2015. it stands as a record of close to a decade of my life, charting the struggles i faced as an artist, daughter, and lover. messy and chaotic at times, eloquent and poetic at others, these texts are an index i am proud of. it was here in this electric box that i learned how to be honest about my experiences and the person i needed to become. it was here that i first learned the truism that words make the world and how to trust such a beautiful, rife, hard fact.

thank you for meeting me here in such tall grass.

until then

i'll be off the grid for a week.  no computer and i don't own a smart phone.  all i need is a map and my diary.  my longest friend, daniela, is meeting me in NYC.  we met one day walking home from junior high when we were 14 years old.   she walked right up to me and said HI!  i was so shy then, so quiet and afraid.  but i had so many dreams for myself, for my life.  i carry a great deal of those dreams still.  tomorrow, i get on an airplane and realize one of those dreams, a dream i've carried for as long as i can remember.  it is quite an emotional thing.  i've been on the verge of tears all day.

i went to SFMOMA today and bought thin, black travel journals for daniela and i.  the word VOYAGE is letter pressed in to the front cover.  i plan to fill every available space on each page before i return home. i can't wait to walk the same streets that bore David Wojnarowicz along.   i can't wait to look out the airplane window and see that famous skyline come in to view, come closer, closer, closer and then swallow me in to its madness.

all my love.

Undeniably the BEST city in the world with Seattle being second best and New Orleans being the third best and Chicago being the fourth best. Please come to Seattle soon. And kiss New York for me. I miss it with my whole heart and this series of self portraits are so remarkable and full of raw energy and beauty that they will go down in history long after you have fled to places even more interesting than New York. I believe it with my whole heart. I love you Angela.

rebecca, my love! OH MY GOD NEW YORK IS AMAZING! i can't believe it took me so long to get there but now that i've seen it i am totally in love. i can't wait to go back. i did not want to leave. i wanted to figure out some hair-brained way of staying, or at least extend my trip by a few days, but i'm definitely a fan of cutting ties responsibly. maybe after a few months of stock piling money i can begin to think about becoming a transplant.

i'm so glad you like these photos. i have a ton of them hidden away inside my computer. they are definitely pointing me in a new direction and expanding my notions of what art is and how it can be made. i've lost all allegiance to a single medium and feel honest working in a multitude of forms. drawing, writing, crochet, and now photography. it's so performative. i love it.

i will come to seattle soooon!!!! the next time i have three free days totally devoid of any responsibility i will come up. you're beautiful city is so close to mine that a spurr of the moment trip is completely do-able!

XOXOXOXOX
