these texts are an archive of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area from march 2007 - march 2015. it stands as a record of close to a decade of my life, charting the struggles i faced as an artist, daughter, and lover. messy and chaotic at times, eloquent and poetic at others, these texts are an index i am proud of. it was here in this electric box that i learned how to be honest about my experiences and the person i needed to become. it was here that i first learned the truism that words make the world and how to trust such a beautiful, rife, hard fact.
I remember that swing! When I was a child my best friend and I used to go through it to pass into "the quicksand world"...
I especially dig the shadowy bit around the base of the tire that looks like a wash (not sure that is the eng. term, when you use extra water, or when the support is already wet and the pigment behaves differently?)...
From what I've seen your graphic art expression, it is one that I can understand (mostly in my own way of course), relate to, and appreciate... Which I usually have a hard time doing.
hannah!!! yay!!! HURRAY FOR WALL SIZE, INDEED! especially when it's a drawing! i can't even tell you how many pencils i've burned through and how many more it's going to take. ha!
alesa, i LOVE your story about passing through the tire swing to get to "quicksand world". LOVE!!!! it makes my heart smile when i hear people's childhood memories- the games they played and imagination and silliness. thank you!
