these texts are an archive of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area from march 2007 - march 2015. it stands as a record of close to a decade of my life, charting the struggles i faced as an artist, daughter, and lover. messy and chaotic at times, eloquent and poetic at others, these texts are an index i am proud of. it was here in this electric box that i learned how to be honest about my experiences and the person i needed to become. it was here that i first learned the truism that words make the world and how to trust such a beautiful, rife, hard fact.

thank you for meeting me here in such tall grass.

my artist website is here.

packing...

would you like to know how neurotic i am?

i've gotten the majority of my packing done... or so i thought until it came time to choose books. there are certain books that follow a person around no matter where they go and no matter if they will actually read them. they are constant companions. they are part of a person's life. i am in the thick of stupidity and choice right now. who shall i bring along for the ride? it's only two weeks but it's TWO WEEKS! 'radish king' and 'cadaver dogs' by rebecca loudon are on board. also 'ariel' by sylvia plath. my collection of hans christian andersen and a big fat book of kiki smith's work. and 'alice's adventures in wonderland' and the collected short stories and fairy tales of angela carter. but then i saw sharon olds and grabbed 'satan says', 'the gold cell', and 'the dead and the living'. and then i saw molly gaudry's 'we take me apart'. and then i saw 'the baker's daughter' and my big collection of zines and chapbooks and started thinking about the clothes i could do without and that's when i realized i am so neurotic and romantic that i should just take a break and come back to it later. but there isn't all that much time to decide. i'm leaving at 6 in the morning tomorrow and, really, it's just two weeks but IT'S TWO WEEKS! arggggggggg. books.

If you just take yourself and the clothes you need along with maybe one book to read in transit, you might discover new unexpected things along the way to fill the gap. Maybe it's better therefore to travel light. These other books you describe you will carry in your mind. And, as you say, they'll still be there for you on your return,

three poetry books and three books of fiction to draw you in - that is it that is all... you are probably asleep right now, have a safe, relaxing and fun trip!

elisabeth and marta- voices of reason. :) and my sweetie too- laughing at me all day as i packed and then re-packed my bag, stared at the books in my hands and walked over to the bookcase to put them back but then turned and shoved them in my bag anyway. hahahaha! whether i even read them isn't really even the point, i think... i just want them with me, next to the bed i will sleep in, no matter where that bed is. neurotic, i tell you, but hopefully at least a little bit endearing. ;)

Oh my Lord! I would be so stressed out to carry all those! Then again, I guess it's like me when I go on vacation.... more than half of my big suitcase is camera equipment and film.

hahahaha! exactly. and i guess it's not a real vacation i'm going on... more like a visit rather than a holiday. i'll still be working. good thing i like my job. ;)
